One of the most common ways to injure yourself during the holidays is by using improper lifting techniques; an example would be lifting your turkey out of the oven. Therefore, we would like to spare you spending the rest of your Thanksgiving in bed by reminding you how to lift properly.
- Place your feet no more than shoulder distance apart.
- Bend your legs slightly to a squat position to create a solid base.
- When you grasp your roasting pan with both hands (in pot holders), make sure you have a good grip.
- When lifting out the turkey, make sure you move your feet in synch with your torso, so as not to twist at the waist.
- You want to make sure your whole body faces the same direction at all times. (also, don’t try to close the oven with a foot, leaving you only one foot to balance on)
